Description
The Scientist III is responsible for developing, executing, and supporting analytical characterization methods for large molecule biopharmaceutical products. This role utilizes advanced separation science and biochemical techniques to perform method development, routine testing, data analysis, and scientific documentation. The scientist will work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, supporting analytical testing activities while ensuring high-quality data generation, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize analytical methods for the characterization of biologics and related products.
- Perform routine laboratory testing using chromatographic, electrophoretic, and biochemical techniques.
- Analyze, process, document, and report scientific data.
- Prepare reagents, standards, and laboratory solutions required for testing activities.
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation, including tracking, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing minor repairs.
- Review scientific data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks and prepare technical documentation.
- Ensure laboratory operations comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and clean laboratory environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support analytical development and project objectives.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field with 2+ years of experience.
- Master’s degree in a related scientific field with 5+ years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field with 7+ years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
Experience:
- Hands-on experience and strong technical knowledge of analytical laboratory techniques, including:HPLC/UPLC (Reverse Phase, Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC), and Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEX))
- Capillary Electrophoresis (CE)
- cIEF (Capillary Isoelectric Focusing)
- Simple Western
- Experience with chromatography methods, including HPLC/UPLC Reverse Phase and SEC, and/or Capillary Electrophoresis (CE).
- Experience supporting large molecule analytical characterization.
- Strong computer proficiency and scientific data analysis skills.
- Experience with laboratory software including Empower, 32 Karat, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet aggressive project timelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Experience with:Multi-Angle Light Scattering (MALS)
- Refractive Index (RI), UV, and Charged Aerosol Detection (CAD)
- Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)
- Zeta Potential analysis
- Experience analyzing biologics (proteins, mRNA) and/or small molecules (lipids).
- Experience with electrophoresis-based characterization techniques.
Additional Information:
- Strong background in large molecule analytical characterization is highly preferred.
- Experience with light scattering technologies and advanced detection systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with separation techniques including Reverse Phase, SEC, CE, and Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC).
- Requires a self-motivated, adaptable professional who can work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to learn new technologies and analytical methods are essential for success in this role.
