Description
Join the Discovery Analytical Research team as an Automation Scientist, where you will play a key role in supporting high-volume screening assays and formulation development. This role focuses on the intersection of analytical chemistry and laboratory automation, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment to process hundreds of samples weekly. You will be responsible for the end-to-end sample lifecycle, from receipt and preparation to data interpretation, ensuring that critical research data is delivered within specified timeframes. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual with a background in UPLC and liquid handling robotics to contribute to innovative discovery research.
Responsibilities
- Receive and document samples submitted for various screening assays.
- Track the preparation and analysis of hundreds of sample submissions per week using advanced automation techniques.
- Setup, troubleshoot, and perform routine upkeep of automation equipment, including Tecan liquid handling robots and Agilent UPLCs.
- Prepare samples for UPLC analysis specifically using automation tools.
- Perform data processing and interpretation of analytical results.
- Conduct calibration, repair, and regular maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Execute sample testing and analysis within strict specified time frames.
- Perform routine physical testing of samples to support ongoing formulation development.
- Support general laboratory activities, including weekly eye-wash checks, shipping, and chemical inventory management.
- Execute precise gravimetric and volumetric sample preparation and dilution.
Education
- Required: BS or MS degree.
Experience
- Minimum Requirements: 1–3 years of experience (academic or industry).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in modern liquid chromatography; experience with Agilent UPLC and Open Lab CDS is highly preferred.
- Analytical Skills: Experience in preparing and analyzing samples for solubility determination.
- Lab Skills: Required experience in gravimetric and volumetric sample preparation and dilution.
- Software: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
- Preferred Experience: * Excel Macro Programming.
- X-ray powder diffraction (Bruker AXS preferred).
- Experience with Liquid Handling Robots (Tecan and/or Dynamic Devices preferred).
