Description

Summary
Join a dynamic biologics analytical testing team dedicated to supporting the development of life-changing therapeutic proteins and antibody-drug conjugates. As an Analytical Scientist, you will provide essential testing support for cell-line development, process characterization, and stability studies. This 100% onsite, lab-based role is designed for a self-motivated professional capable of executing high-volume sample testing within a fast-paced industry environment. You will work at the forefront of biopharmaceutical research, ensuring the safety and efficacy of preclinical and clinical-stage programs through rigorous scientific analysis and precise documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support high-throughput analytical testing for biologics, including pre-formulation, robustness, and admixture studies.
  • Execute routine testing on samples from cell-line development, in-process monitoring, and release/stability programs.
  • Perform complex separations for large molecules and plate-based assays to characterize monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic proteins.
  • Prepare accurate reagents, including precise dilutions, buffers, and mobile phases for laboratory use.
  • Process analytical results and maintain meticulous documentation within Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) following established protocols.
  • Conduct basic instrumentation troubleshooting to ensure minimal downtime for critical analytical systems.
  • Manage laboratory samples and monitor controlled temperature storage units to maintain sample integrity.
  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety, hygiene, compliance, and quality practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while maintaining the ability to execute tasks independently.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree: 6+ years of relevant experience in an analytical chemistry or biologics testing lab.
  • Master’s Degree: 4+ years of relevant experience in an analytical chemistry or biologics testing lab.
  • Ph.D.: 1–2 years of relevant experience in an analytical chemistry or biologics testing lab.

Experience

  • Required Technical Expertise: Direct experience operating LC (HPLC/UPLC) and CE (CE-SDS/cIEF) systems for large molecule testing in an industry or CRO environment.
  • Separations Knowledge: Proven experience with Size Exclusion (SEC), Ion Exchange (IEX/AEX/CEX), Reverse Phase (RP), or Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC).
  • Lab Proficiency: Mastery of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and experience with reagent/buffer preparation.
  • Industry Readiness: Must have prior industry experience with the ability to quickly adapt to Merck-specific procedures.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, OneNote); experience with analytical software like Empower is highly desired.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience with plate-based methods (ELISA) and compendial testing (UV 280, pH, Physical Observations).

Additional Information

  • Work Environment: This is a 100% onsite, lab-based position.
  • Scope: The role involves high-volume testing across multiple biologics programs, including proteins and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • Soft Skills: Requires strong communication abilities, a collaborative mindset, and a high level of technical adaptability.
