Description
The Scientist II role within the Cell Pharmacology group at Merck Research Laboratories in Boston offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a strong biology research background and experience in drug discovery. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design, development, and execution of in vitro cellular assays and high-throughput screening campaigns in support of internal drug discovery programs. This role is critical in advancing our mission to develop innovative therapeutics that impact patients worldwide.
Responsibilities:
• Independently design and implement a variety of cellular in vitro assays using diverse methodologies
• Execute semi- and fully automated high-throughput compound and biologics screens
• Develop and carry out experimental strategies to explore biomarkers, mechanisms of action, and resistance pathways
• Document and communicate experimental findings effectively through reports and presentations
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Quantitative Biosciences and across departments to advance drug discovery efforts
• Apply problem-solving skills to assay troubleshooting and data analysis
• Maintain a strong understanding of disease biology and project goals to support scientific decision-making
Education:
• B.S./B.A. in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience
• M.S. in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 1 year of experience
Experience
Required:
• Extensive laboratory research experience in an academic or industrial setting
• Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, including passaging and harvesting
• Hands-on experience in medium to high-throughput assay execution
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in scientific data analysis software
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and team-oriented environments
Preferred:
• Experience in assay development and troubleshooting
• Proficiency with various high-throughput screen formats
• Background in drug discovery and biomarker analysis
