Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Scientist to join our team, focusing on Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry, and upstream process development. This hands-on laboratory role involves executing small-scale fermentation runs, preparing reagents and media, and performing analytical assays. The successful candidate will utilize strong laboratory skills, aseptic techniques, and knowledge of microbial cell culture. A key function is the accurate analysis, collation, and reporting of data following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), requiring excellent organizational and computer skills, particularly proficiency in Excel. The role demands the ability to work independently and collaboratively, offering a vital contribution to process development activities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare all necessary laboratory reagents, solutions, and culture media for experiments.
- Perform lab-scale fermentation runs to meet various research and development needs.
- Set up and operate process equipment specifically for lab-scale experiments.
- Execute various analytical assays (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA) on samples.
- Analyze, collate, track, and report data and findings accurately back to client staff members.
- Maintain complete and accurate records and test results following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) guidance.
- Document all work clearly and perform tests accurately and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively (oral and written) with client staff members regarding work progress and results.
Education
- B.S. in Biology, Bio/chemistry, Bio/chemical Engineering, or a related science or engineering field.
Experience
- At least six months of laboratory experience in Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry, and/or upstream process development.
- General laboratory skills, including experience with aseptic manipulations and pipettes.
- Experience in culturing microbial cells at different scales.
- Experience in protein biochemistry and analytical methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA).
- Basic knowledge of fermentation.
- Experience using formulas and linking spreadsheets in Excel.
- Highly computer literate, with strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
Additional Information
- This position requires occasional off-hour and/or weekend work (10-20% of hours may be "off-shift").
- This position will require work with Biosafety Level-1 organisms.
- The ideal candidate possesses self-motivation, adaptability, a positive attitude, and the ability to learn new techniques and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
