Description
Scientist I
Position Description:
The Scientist I will support in-lab discovery efforts through high-quality tissue processing, sample handling, and protein quantification in a GLP-compliant environment. The role is 100% lab-based and requires attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and a strong collaborative approach. The candidate will work primarily with BSL-2 derived human and rodent materials, ensuring sample integrity and safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform tissue homogenization using both manual (cryopulverization, Dounce) and mechanical (Qiagen TissueLyser, Diagenode Bioruptor, sonication) techniques
• Process and label large volumes of BSL-2 level human and rodent samples with precision
• Execute biochemical assay workflows, including sample preparation, protein extraction (e.g., RIPA, Triton X-100), and quantification using BCA assays (e.g., Pierce Rapid Gold BCA)
• Operate laboratory equipment including homogenizers, ultracentrifuges, sonicators, and the Tecan Spark
• Follow strict biosafety protocols and maintain clean, safe lab spaces, ensuring proper decontamination of shared equipment
• Maintain accurate and detailed records in electronic lab notebooks (e.g., Signals)
• Communicate effectively with team scientists to meet program deliverables and timelines
• Adhere to GLP compliance standards, including traceability, documentation accuracy, and sample integrity
• Utilize software such as Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, and relevant laboratory systems for data capture and communication
Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Life Sciences or related discipline
• 1–2 years of laboratory experience in academic or industry settings
• Strong foundational understanding of biochemical assay workflows
• Proven experience or willingness to work with BSL-2 derived materials
• Strong manual pipetting skills and high precision sample handling
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and familiarity with electronic lab notebooks
• Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
Desired Skills:
• Experience with detergent-based protein extraction and tissue homogenization methods
• Familiarity with Tecan Spark plate reader and GraphPad Prism for protein quantification
• Experience in GLP-regulated environments
• Familiarity with operating ultracentrifuges, homogenizers, sonicators, and automated platforms
• Knowledge of or interest in learning BCA protein assays
