Description

Join our Quality Control team in De Soto, Kansas, as a Laboratory Technician I (Assistant). This role is essential for the testing of veterinary biologicals, ensuring all procedures meet strict government and company-imposed regulations. You will perform routine basic and mid-level laboratory procedures with minimal guidance, supporting the evaluation of viruses, bacteria, and cell lines. This is a critical position for a detail-oriented individual looking to contribute to animal health through rigorous quality control and environmental monitoring.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare, sterilize, and maintain essential media, solutions, glassware, and laboratory equipment.
  • Manage the receipt, coordination, and distribution of incoming lab testing materials and samples.
  • Oversee the shipment of test samples to other sites and regulatory agencies under strict requirements.
  • Perform routine quality control procedures, including environmental monitoring observations.
  • Enter test results into tracking systems and cross-check wet records to evaluate test dispositions.
  • Report all unusual or non-routine occurrences to QC Management with necessary documentation.
  • Prepare and qualify test reagents and participate in the creation or revision of SOPs and test methods.
  • Troubleshoot basic and mid-level test methods with limited guidance.
  • Conduct peer record reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance across the team.

Education

  • Minimum Requirement: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: * Bachelor’s degree in a related field (no experience required).
  • Associate degree in a related field with 2+ years of experience.
  • High School Diploma/equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic to moderately complex laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge Base: General knowledge of biology and chemistry; basic understanding of viruses, bacteria, and cell lines.
  • Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills for peer reviews and management reporting.
  • Math & Writing: Good mathematics and technical writing skills for documentation and result evaluation.
  • Operational Skills: Ability to handle large amounts of detailed work and manage several projects simultaneously.

Additional Information

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move material up to 25 lbs manually or using dollies/hand trucks.
  • Work Style: High level of organization, tact, and patience; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaboration: Requires effective teamwork with Quality Control, R&D, and Manufacturing departments.
  • Compliance: Must strictly follow government and company-imposed guidelines for veterinary biologicals.
