Position Description:
Merck & Co. is seeking a Lab Technician II to join the High Throughput Purification team within the Discovery Chemistry Department at our West Point, PA site. This role supports a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative discovery team focused on analyzing and purifying novel medicines prepared by medicinal chemists. The Lab Technician II will primarily prepare standard solutions, concentrate purified sample solutions, perform basic UPLC maintenance, and manage lab consumables inventory and equipment maintenance requests, ensuring smooth lab operations in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare standard solutions and concentrate purified sample solutions
- Conduct basic UPLC maintenance
- Manage ordering and inventory of laboratory consumables
- Submit and track equipment maintenance requests
- Maintain equipment inventories and assist with work orders/requisitions
- Operate analytical and preparative instrumentation as needed
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and support laboratory needs
Education:
Required: High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience
Preferred: BS/BA in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field with 0–2 years of experience
Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proficiency with basic lab equipment: balances, rotary evaporators, Milli-Q systems, and automatic pipettors
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer programs
- Effective communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced team environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Operation and maintenance experience with HPLC, LCMS, and flash chromatography
- Knowledge of basic chemistry
- Experience in making standard solutions
- Experience with inventory management
