Description
Our Manufacturing Operations teams are the people who make our products, operating with a mindset of "Safety First, Quality Always" and striving for continuous improvement. This role is based at our Animal Health, Millsboro, DE Biotechnology Center of Excellence, which is responsible for the manufacture, filling, packaging, and distribution of a variety of animal vaccines. The site utilizes multiple production methods, including mammalian, insect, and avian cell culture, live bird vaccine production, and down-stream processing (e.g., aseptic filling and lyophilization). The Manufacturing Operations Technician performs duties under strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring the highest quality of finished products linked to our global manufacturing network.
Responsibilities
- Perform essential cleaning of the work area, including floors, walls, and tables, to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
- Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and equipment for use in production processes.
- Assist with equipment setup and operation for various manufacturing stages.
- Perform or assist with aseptic procedures such as product formulation, filling equipment setup and operations, and environmental monitoring.
- Execute and assist with the formulation, filling, labeling, capping, packaging, and visual inspection of vaccines.
- Maintain accurate and concurrent record keeping using charts, log books, and all pertinent documentation.
- Report all unusual or non-routine occurrences immediately when performing tasks.
- Assist in performing non-aseptic procedures, which may include the handling of poultry in the process of harvesting tissue or waste.
- Attend required training classes, workshops, and meetings to continuously improve job skills and product-related procedures.
Education
- High School diploma/GED with industry-related lab experience OR a Bachelor’s degree with industry or academic lab experience.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of lab experience is required.
- Able to apply knowledge and skills to complete assigned work and recognize problems to assess solutions using existing procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and comprehend information, and effectively convey information to colleagues at various levels.
- Preferred: Experience with Aseptic clean room behaviors and a background in Biology or Chemistry education.
- Important Note: Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that includes overtime, holidays, and weekends. Shift hours will rotate throughout the month (e.g., 6am – 2:30pm, 8am – 4:30pm, 10am – 6:30pm, 12pm – 8:30pm).
Additional Information
- This position requires the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and conversions and the ability to work standing for long periods of time. The worker will typically rotate between two adjacent shifts each week and must be highly flexible to meet the demands of the manufacturing process. The role may also involve assisting in reviewing and developing SOPs, reviewing production records, and may be accountable for the accumulation, labeling, and management of hazardous wastes after proper training.
