Description
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for maintaining laboratory operations, preparing essential reagents and materials, and ensuring accurate data review and calculation. This role requires a strong foundational knowledge of good laboratory techniques, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to troubleshoot beyond standard defined actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lab Operations & Maintenance: Maintain reagents, supplies, and calibrated equipment; ensure the overall cleanliness and safety of the laboratory environment; utilize autoclaves efficiently.
- Reagent Preparation & Testing: Prepare essential reagents and materials required for daily testing and experimental procedures.
- Data Management & Compliance: Review analytical data, calculate results accurately, and adhere strictly to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Quality & Documentation: Write Laboratory Investigations as needed, and revise pre-existing Standard Methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Training & Collaboration: Train team members on laboratory methods and procedures; communicate schedules, test statuses, and concerns clearly and accurately.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Proficiency in foundational laboratory techniques (including accurate pipetting and weighing).
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills beyond basic method-defined actions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment, including autoclaves.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
Physical & Environmental Working Conditions
- Work Environment: Ability to perform in both indoor and outdoor settings, which includes navigating varying temperatures and entering coolers and freezers.
- Physical Demands: The majority of the shift is spent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Must strictly adhere to the company Safety Policy and wear required PPE, which may include safety glasses, safety shoes, liquid nitrogen (LN) gear, face shields, aprons, and gloves.
