Description
The Laboratory Technician supports critical laboratory procedures associated with the production of veterinary products. This entry-level role assists with cell culture processes and other laboratory operations throughout the manufacturing cycle. The technician will operate various laboratory equipment while following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all safety and company policies. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to aseptic techniques, and the ability to maintain accurate documentation in a regulated laboratory environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory procedures including aseptic techniques, media preparation, antigen inoculation and harvest, tissue culture preparation and harvest, and vaccine filling.
- Support cell culture processes throughout the manufacturing cycle.
- Maintain accurate records including charts, logbooks, and other required documentation.
- Communicate unusual or non-routine occurrences during laboratory tasks to supervision.
- Clean work areas and prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and laboratory equipment.
- Set up and operate laboratory equipment as required for production activities.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all safety guidelines.
- Handle materials used in virus propagation processes, including work with embryonic eggs.
- Maintain organization of laboratory materials and ensure proper preparation for production activities.
Education:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or High School diploma with relevant laboratory or manufacturing experience.
Experience:
- GMP experience required.
- Laboratory-based experience preferred but not required.
- Experience working in aseptic or cleanroom environments preferred.
- Experience with laboratory equipment such as pH meters, centrifuges (e.g., UniFuge), and measurement tools.
- Ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Cell culture experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with SAP systems preferred.
- Scientific or laboratory background helpful.
Additional Information:
- Shift: Stretch schedule of 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts.
- Candidates must pass a physical abilities test prior to starting onsite.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills are highly desirable.
- Preferred knowledge of vaccines and vaccine production processes.
- Work involves handling hazardous materials including isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, phenolic disinfectants, and oxidizers.
- Position requires strict adherence to safety procedures and aseptic behaviors in a regulated environment.
