Description
The Laboratory Technician (Entry Level) is a vital role responsible for critical procedures in the manufacturing of veterinary products. Working within a specialized cell culture environment, this technician operates technical equipment across the full manufacturing cycle—from media preparation to antigen harvest. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who can strictly follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while handling biological materials, including embryonic eggs for virus propagation. The role requires a strong commitment to safety and aseptic behaviors within a fast-paced production setting.
Responsibilities
- Aseptic Manufacturing: Perform critical procedures including aseptic work, media preparation, and tissue culture preparation and harvest.
- Vaccine Production: Execute technical duties related to antigen inoculation, harvest, and the filling of veterinary vaccines.
- Documentation & Records: Maintain accurate and reliable record-keeping, including the management of charts, logbooks, and all pertinent GMP documentation.
- Equipment Operation: Responsible for the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment such as pH meters and UniFuge systems.
- Sanitization & Prep: Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and equipment; maintain a sterile workspace including floors and benches.
- Materials Handling: Safely utilize and manage hazardous materials including Isopropyl Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Phenolic Disinfectants.
- Communication: Proactively communicate any unusual or non-routine occurrences to department supervision to ensure process integrity.
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, internal controls, and regulatory manufacturing guidelines.
Education
- Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or commensurate experience with some lab-based background.
Experience
- Required: Previous experience in a GMP environment and hands-on experience in an aseptic or cleanroom setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using pH meters, UniFuge, and measuring components; ability to read and follow complex SOPs.
- Preferred: Experience with cell culturing and vaccine production; prior knowledge or use of SAP systems.
- Soft Skills: Effective writing, oral communication, and strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
Additional Information
- Shift Structure: This role operates on a "stretch" schedule consisting of 4–10 hour days.
- Physical Requirements: A physical abilities test is mandatory and must be passed prior to starting on-site.
- Environment: Work involves exposure to embryonic eggs for virus propagation and the use of various chemical oxidizers and disinfectants.
