Description

The Lab Technician I supports manufacturing and laboratory operations within a biotechnology manufacturing environment, contributing to the production, filling, packaging, and distribution of animal health vaccines. This role operates with a Safety First, Quality Always mindset and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. The position requires flexibility to support rotating shifts and manufacturing demands.


Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform assigned duties in compliance with GMPs, SOPs, safety guidelines, and company policies
  • Clean and maintain work areas, including floors, walls, tables, and equipment
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and equipment for laboratory and manufacturing use
  • Assist with equipment setup, operation, and routine activities
  • Support aseptic procedures, including product formulation, fill equipment setup and operation, and environmental monitoring
  • Perform non-aseptic procedures, including handling poultry during tissue harvesting or waste processes
  • Conduct formulation, filling, labeling, capping, packaging, and visual inspection of vaccines
  • Maintain accurate and concurrent documentation, including charts, logbooks, and production records
  • Review production records and enter technical data into required systems
  • Assist in reviewing, updating, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist in monitoring and requisitioning laboratory supplies
  • Support training of new team members
  • Identify and report unusual, non-routine, or out-of-specification occurrences
  • Manage accumulation, labeling, and handling of hazardous waste when properly trained
  • Attend required training classes, workshops, and meetings to enhance job skills and procedural knowledge
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a safe, compliant work environment at all times


Education:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED with industry-related laboratory experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with industry or academic laboratory experience


Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience
  • Ability to apply existing knowledge and skills to complete assigned tasks within defined timeframes
  • Experience recognizing problems and using established procedures to assess solutions
  • Aseptic clean room behavior experience preferred
  • Biology or chemistry educational background preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred


Additional Information:

 

  • Strong ability to read, write, and comprehend technical information and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and unit conversions
  • Ability to work standing for extended periods of time
  • Must be flexible to work a rotating shift schedule, including overtime, holidays, and weekends, based on manufacturing needs

 

Rotating Shift Schedule (subject to change):

  • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • 3rd Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
  • 4th Shift: 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM

On average, the employee will work two adjacent shifts per week and must remain flexible to support business demands.
