Description
The Lab Facilities Specialist , Laboratory Operations – Device Development & Technology (DD&T) is a critical role within Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) based in Rahway, New Jersey. This position ensures that R&D concepts for medical devices and combination products are successfully brought to market through exceptional project management and operational support. Working under the guidance of a Senior Specialist, you will be a key player in a highly motivated team, providing the administrative and technical foundation necessary for global clinical supply and pharmaceutical sciences to thrive.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform general laboratory administrative duties, including scheduling equipment maintenance, calibration, and testing.
- Maintain development and GXP laboratory equipment and instrumentation according to internal standards and industry best practices.
- Manage laboratory procurement needs, including processing purchase orders (PO), invoice payments, and expense tracking.
- Facilitate domestic and international shipping of equipment, manufacturing samples, and drug/combination products.
- Coordinate laboratory technical and safety training, including lifecycle management of required documentation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to arrange evaluations for new vendor technologies.
- Oversee facilities management and the ordering of both routine and specialty laboratory supplies.
- Utilize SAP, Concur, or related systems to process vendor add forms and generate stockroom inventory reports.
- prioritize and execute work activities with minimal supervision, demonstrating extraordinary attention to detail and independent judgment.
Education
- High School Diploma
Experience
- Advanced computer skills in MS Outlook, Teams, Project, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Experience in device and combination product characterization and mechanical testing is highly preferred.
- Background in GXP-Analytical laboratory testing or management is a strong plus.
- Previous experience with SAP, Concur, or similar systems for financial and inventory processing.
Additional Information
- Location: 100% onsite role at the Rahway, New Jersey facility.
- Shift: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM EST.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, box, and unbox up to 45 lbs unassisted; ability to move pallets using a pallet jack; and the capacity to walk, sit, and stand for extended durations.
