Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join the Merck Manufacturing Operations team at our Elkton, Virginia site. This role is a vital part of Quality Operations, ensuring all pharmaceutical products meet the highest safety and compliance standards. Operating within a grade facility in an aseptic environment, this position requires gowning and may involve working independently or with one other team member during shifts.

The ideal candidate will have experience in microbiology, aseptic techniques, and laboratory data management systems. This position follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule and requires the ability to work in an environment with potential beta-lactam antibiotic exposure.


Responsibilities

Collect environmental monitoring samples, including:Viable surface/air samples
Non-viable air samples
Environmental monitoring plate reads
Conduct microbiological and chemical sampling of process water
Perform clean steam and compressed gas sampling/testing
Assist with data management activities and facilities qualification testing
Participate in gowning training and certifications
Support protocol testing as needed
Prepare and maintain all laboratory supplies and equipment
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and update them as necessary, in alignment with management

Education:

B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or related sciences (required)

Experience & Skills:

Required:

Ability to work independently and manage workload as directed
Proficient computer skills
Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and laboratory data management systems
Preferred:

Experience with laboratory data management systems
Microbiology and aseptic technique experience (training provided)
Knowledge of cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices)
Previous laboratory work experience
Strong ability to read and write in English

Additional Information:

Work Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (Days and Nights)6:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Important Note: This role requires working in an environment with potential beta-lactam antibiotic exposure
