Description
Summary:
The Engineer II role supports laboratory-based scientific and engineering activities across multiple vaccine programs. This position contributes to genomics analysis, method execution, and data generation in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment. The Engineer II will apply strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and documentation practices to support experimental work, method development, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory-based experimental work in support of genomics and vaccine-related programs
- Execute DNA and RNA workflows for genomics analysis, including PCR and qPCR reactions
- Apply wet chemistry laboratory techniques, including pipetting, buffer preparation, filtration, dilution, and stoichiometric calculations
- Support development, optimization, and transfer of laboratory methods
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and support troubleshooting of experimental or equipment-related issues
- Accurately document experimental procedures, results, and observations in laboratory notebooks and data management systems
- Maintain laboratory records, chemical inventories, and ensure compliance with laboratory standards
- Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to internal stakeholders
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple vaccine programs
- Contribute to laboratory operations and continuous improvement initiatives
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR
- Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 1–2 years of relevant experience
Experience:
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment
- Experience working with DNA and RNA for genomics analysis
- Proficiency performing PCR and qPCR reactions
- Strong wet chemistry laboratory skills
- Experience with technical writing and laboratory documentation (laboratory notebooks, chemical inventory, data management)
- Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills with strong data interpretation and presentation abilities
- Ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based environments
- Experience with laboratory automation preferred
- Experience with sterile cell culture preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with analytical instrumentation such as plate readers, thermocyclers, high-throughput microscopy, and flow cytometry
- Experience supporting laboratory operations
- Prior experience in an industry environment
- Experience troubleshooting experimental and equipment-related technical issues
- Experience with method development and method transfer
- Computational analysis experience using R and/or Python
