Engineer I -(Assistant)

We are seeking a Shift Engineer to support vaccine, biologic, and sterile manufacturing processes. This role involves providing technical troubleshooting, process optimization, and shift-based support within a cGMP-regulated environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong problem-solving abilities, hands-on technical aptitude, and a collaborative mindset. This is a contract position based at a manufacturing facility in the Shenandoah Valley.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for manufacturing processes, including data analysis and troubleshooting
• Conduct technical investigations and recommend corrective and preventive actions
• Support change control processes and documentation
• Author and revise procedures for equipment and process operations
• Help lead reduction of atypical events and improve operational consistency
• Perform shift work as needed to support 24/7 operations
• Participate in safety reviews and contribute to risk mitigation strategies
• Learn and apply new procedures and technical knowledge proactively
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support facility and process goals

Education:

• B.S. or M.S. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Integrated Science, or a related field

Experience:

Required:

• 0–3 years of relevant industry experience
• Strong academic record
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach
• Ability to assess issues from multiple perspectives (compliance, process, people, safety, etc.)
• Initiative, drive for continuous learning, and teamwork orientation
• Must not have a known Beta Lactam allergy

Heavily Preferred:

• Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment
• Prior work, co-op, or internship experience in industry

Additional Information:

• This is a temporary role on a rotating shift schedule, Rotating 12 Hour Shift (6am – 6pm or 2pm-2am; 7 days a week)
• Position is located in the Shenandoah Valley near the Blue Ridge Mountains, close to UVA and JMU
