Education & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences, Engineering)
Required Experience and Skills
Experience with bioreactors and/or micro-fermentation
Any automation experience (Delta V system) is a great asset
Aseptic technique experience
Wet chemistry laboratory skills, including:Pipetting
Buffer preparation
Filtration
Dilution
Stoichiometry
Proficiency with technical writing and laboratory records, such as:Laboratory notebooks
Chemical inventory
Data management
Excellent collaborative and team-working skills
Strong technical problem-solving abilities, data interpretation, and presentation competence
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience performing fermentation or cell culture studies at lab scale
Experience performing fermentation or cell culture studies using shake flasks
Knowledge of yeast fermentation and metabolism
Experience with laboratory operations
Experience with facility operations
Industry experience in a manufacturing or process development environment
Experience conducting laboratory-scale process characterization studies
Experience troubleshooting technical issues, including:Experimental issues
Equipment-related issues
Shift Schedule
3-2-3 Day/Night Rotation
6:00 AM – 6:00 PM / 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (rotating shift)
Role Responsibilities
As a member of the Process Development Team, the primary responsibilities include:
Participating in fermentation and/or purification of proteins/VLPs at lab and pilot scale
Supporting execution of process development activities and manufacturing investigations
Performing laboratory-scale studies
Designing and troubleshooting experiments
Utilizing strong verbal and written communication skills
Authoring laboratory notebooks and technical documents
Working independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Producing high-quality work within firm deadlines
Maintaining good sample handling practices
Balancing and prioritizing competing deliverables
Committing to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace
About the Position
This position reports to the Technical Operations Department and supports the manufacture of HPV Gardasil. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the candidate should have fundamental knowledge of:
Fermentation and cell culture
Protein chemistry and purification
Analytical techniques
Laboratory operations
Join our Process Development Team and contribute to:
Applying various fermentation, purification, and characterization techniques
Supporting commercial and bench-scale pharmaceutical processes
Utilizing scale-down models to provide investigation support and process understanding
Facilitating technology transfer of products to the Elkton site
Collaborating across teams to bridge process, quality, and analytical principles
Ensuring the sustained production of medications for patients
